The Short Answer
For a single overnight stay in a secure HGV park in the UK in 2026, expect to pay:
- Rigid truck: £18 to £28 per night
- Articulated unit: £28 to £42 per night
- Drawbar / oversize combination: £35 to £55 per night
- Trailer-only storage: £8 to £15 per night
These are typical secure park rates with full facilities (CCTV, fenced, showers, toilets, hot food). Motorway service area rates are similar or higher with fewer facilities.
What Drives the Price
Several factors push the cost up or down:
Location
Sites near major freight corridors (M6, M1, M25, A14, Dover, Felixstowe) command higher prices because demand is higher. Sites in less-trafficked regions are cheaper.
Vehicle Size
Bay size is a major cost driver. A rigid sits in a 12m bay. An articulated unit needs 17m+. A drawbar over 18m needs the longest, scarcest bays.
Facilities
Sites with showers, hot food, drivers' lounge and Wi-Fi cost more than bare-bones lorry parks. Drivers generally consider this worth it.
Security Level
A site with monitored CCTV, ANPR gates and on-site staff is more expensive to run than an unmonitored locked yard. The price reflects this. Cheap "secure" parking is usually neither.
Discounts to Look For
Most operators offer discounts for:
- Weekly bookings — typically 10–20% off nightly rate
- Monthly bookings — typically 25–40% off nightly rate
- Fleet contracts — bespoke rates for 5+ vehicles regularly using the same site
- Off-peak nights — Sunday and Monday nights are often cheaper
If you regularly use the same site, ask for a contract rate. Most operators will negotiate.
What is NOT Worth Saving On
A few things you should not skimp on:
- CCTV — without it, you have no protection or evidence if something happens
- Perimeter fencing — a locked gate without proper fencing is no security
- Lighting — dark sites are theft magnets
- Driver toilets — DVSA may judge the rest invalid without them
If a cheap site lacks any of these, the saving is not a saving.
Hidden Charges to Watch
Some operators add fees that turn a quoted £25 into £40 by morning:
- Booking fee — usually £2–£5
- Card processing fee — should be zero under UK law, but some still charge
- Shower fee — some sites charge per use
- Early arrival / late departure — within reason this should be free
- ADR surcharge — for hazardous goods loads
Ask for an all-in price at booking.
Long-Term and Trailer Storage
For long-term truck storage between contracts:
- Weekly: £80–£150 per week for a rigid; £120–£220 for an artic
- Monthly: £280–£500 per month depending on vehicle and location
Trailer-only storage is significantly cheaper as there is no associated facility use:
- Weekly: £40–£75 per trailer
- Monthly: £140–£260 per trailer
Getting a Proper Quote
